At the European Eventing Championships in Montelibretti, the German team took gold in the Junior class. The team included the El Bundy/For Pleasure son Entertain You (breeder: Rainer Athens, Hövelhof) with Emely Kurbel. At the championship premiere of the pair, they took a brilliant ninth place in the individual ranking. Only in July they had claimed the German championship title in Luhmühlen. “Emely rode well. She got a bit fast once, which certainly wouldn’t have happened with a bit more experience. But it is, after all, her first European Championship,” said Equipe boss Karl-Heinz Nothofer after the final course, in which the pair had allowed themselves one pole down. Entertain You is already an experienced horse on the international stage. With Emely’s father Jörg Kurbel, the 15-year-old competed for Germany in Nations Cups and was an individual starter at the European Championships in Luhmühlen in 2019.
The U21 riders with the German eagle on the saddle pad took the bronze medal. Also competing were For Ever Pleasure by Firth of Lorne/Phantom (breeder: Heike Neukötter, Großheide) and the breeder’s daughter Pia Schmülling. The Inliner/Gold and Ivory xx daughter Ilara W (breeder: Tanja Weber, Walsrode) and Paula Reinstorf, who had arrived as European Vice-Champions, were eliminated in the cross-country.
